Family 1 and Family 2
Ages: 5yrs +
Pillars: Traditional Taekwondo, Self-Defense, Movement/Fitness
This class builds the foundations for a lifetime of movement, sport, and fitness while learning practical self-defense and martial arts skills. Students cycle through our curriculum pillars in a way that gives them the time and progression to learn and develop new skills without feeling like every class is the same.
This class also develops the footwork, skills, and athletic abilities that they need to join our competition programs.

This program mirrors the pace and intensity of our Advanced Class but focuses on the same foundational taekwondo skills as the Family Program. This program is designed specifically for teens and adults who want to begin taekwondo but are looking for more challenge and independence as they work at their own pace.
This class runs along-side the Advanced Class with a dedicated coach. While it works on foundational taekwondo skills and drills separate from the other group, they will merge to work with their Advanced teammates on the self-defense, sparring basics, and fitness pillars.

Ages: 12 and up
Pillars: Traditional Taekwondo, Self-Defense, Sparring Basics, Fitness/Athletic Abilities
The Advanced class continues the taekwondo development begun in the Family Taekwondo program. Compared to the Family program, students can expect a greater challenge in both the taekwondo skills and fitness challenges. We also tailor skills, drills, and exercise more to each athlete, allowing for individual development and focus, independent learning, and ultimately a greater engagement in their own training.
With more partner and contact drills, both the sparring basics and the self-defense pillars become more tactile and practical with a greater emphasis on specific contexts and environments relevant to each individual participant.

Level: Novice to Advanced (White to Black belts) AFTER basic beginner skills have been acquired
Ages: 5yrs +
Pillars: WT Olympic Taekwondo Sparring
Registering for this class requires a coach’s approval but does begin at the novice level. Once students have their basic kicks, balance, and agility skills set and under control, students who are interested in sparring competition may join.
We develop the athletic abilities, skills, strategy, and tactics to compete at local grassroots competitions right up to national level competition. With emphasis on safety and athlete health, our program prepares athletes for the rigors, risk, and reward of taekwondo competition at every level.
Our Junior and Senior programs are goal based rather than age based. Regardless of participant age or rank, the Junior program is for athletes who want the challenge and leisure balance of recreational competitions: the same competition rules, like-weight and age sparring divisions, and local/regional level competitions a few times per year.
The senior competition program (again, regardless of age or rank) is for athletes who are on the path toward more serious competitions or who simply want the higher level of training. Athletes in Senior Comp have a more customized training plans and greater expectations for both training hours and number of competitions. Athletes will always train at a level appropriate for their age, size, and experience. Health and safety of our fighters is paramount. However the Senior Comp program adds the breadth and depth for an athlete to eventually progress to National Level Black Belt Competitions.
Class Options:
Junior Comp ::: Wed/Fri (7 – 8pm)
Senior Comp ::: Mon (7 – 9pm) + Wed/Fri (7 – 8pm)
Fees vary depending on which Taekwondo Programs are being combined. Please see Schedule/Fees for details.
KickFIT
Level: None
Ages: 18 years +
Pillars: Basic taekwondo, Foundational Fitness, All Bodies
This class is a no-uniform/no-rank martial arts inspired workout that emphasizes stability and strength in the joints and core muscles to facilitate balance, movement, and agility. What does that mean? We work at making the body stronger so that it can move better – regardless of what kind of body you have and what kind of movement you’re after!
All bodies are welcome. What does “all bodies” mean? It means you are welcome and safe as you are.
• Bodies that have been inactive for any length of time
• Post-pregnancy bodies (from “just been cleared” to my kid is 13 and I still pee when I sneeze)
• Injured or rehabbing bodies
• Fat bodies
• Aging bodies
• Disabled bodies
• Stressed and traumatized bodies
• Bodies anywhere on the gender spectrum
• Bodies in any colour skin
This is an anti-diet-culture class. Among other things it means that our goals, training plans, and language in class will all be geared to getting stronger, and improving quality and quantity of movement in our daily lives. Greater strength and fitness can happen in every body, regardless of weight or size.
We don’t centre weight-loss, body shape, or size. We don’t endorse restrictive diets or privileged nutrition. We discuss food only in terms of fuelling and re-fuelling the body for movement and for reinforcing healthy relationships with food and eating.

Kicking and yelling allowed! Hitting? Absolutely. Still need potty reminders? No problem. Not sure about the stranger leading class? No one minds.
Without being too terribly concerned about form, we kick, punch, and yell. Functionally, they are working on balance, coordination, and breath control. We forego the ceremony and formality of traditional martial arts in favour of engagement, fun, and a LOT of moving around.
But we are also mindful of the group dynamic development. Lining up, waiting your turn, learning to follow 2-, 3-, and 4- step instructions, and learning to participate in a group class independently are also central to the classes.
Parents are welcome to sit and watch or offer support where needed but kickSTART isn’t a parent/tot structured class. Maybe your little can’t wait to get out onto the mat and bust a move. Love it. Maybe this is the first independent class they’ve done and they’re a little nervous. No problem. We encourage, invite, and entice but we always keep choices available to take breaks or hang back until they are ready to join on their own.
